We started early at Mirepoix - the Monday morning market set in a medieval square and well cute too.
Thence to Vals where there is a church cut into the rock, built on top of a neanderthal tomb from 2500 BCE... pre-romanesque interventions from 9 - 10th centuries and loverly frescos painted 1100 - 1110 by the school of the Master of Pedret.
Loved it all.
After a quick kip we (John and I ) visited Andree - who was in and gave us a revitalising shot of port -and on en masse to the night market, where all the known world was at the party. Beautiful balmy evening of good street food, good music, good company.
****The Mayor has given me permission ('just do it') to paint out the graffiti on the painting at the end of the impasse, on the cultural centre. Andree suggests that we turn this into a Brit thang, to show that despite the Brexit vote we are here and a part of the community. Nel is up for it but not till the end of Sept.; what about Mrs Scottish Dave, Our Kat, any other painters capable of the patience needed to restore a decent picture?
I'll help :-)
