Carcassonne Festival

At last, made it to the Festival - for Carl Orffs' Carmina Burana, my birthday treat. Unforgettable. Was terrified that it would get rained off and at one point the musicians just stopped as the  rain began and piled off the stage - in the middle of the dead swans lament - then they shuffled back again as the rain stopped, restarted the piece and rendered it totally brill, astonishing. I'd never heard it played live though have several recordings and live is better. This version worth a listen nonetheless...

Being in the castle and under the occasional star was terrific. Sound was good, perhaps as a function of the amphitheatre though the soloists were amplified. Still high on it all.

Pauline and Mark leave us today for Lincolnshire and the heatwave :) Poor things -
