Been away, hence unaccustomed silence - in Aix-en-Province visiting the Chagall exhibition. It was sensational. Hardly seen any of his stuff in the flesh, as it were, on account of there are normally only a token couple in the big museums; here were many and not all under glass and not selected to make a curatorial point (my main complaints against the usual big shows)
Pretty deserted both times I visited which made it possible to ponder in front of pictures at my own pace. Heartily recommended.
Took in the curious Musee Granet as well, which holds the private collection of one Jean Planque. Cor. Completely without other visitors so time to really examine the eclectic works - by Picasso, V.Van G., Manet and all the lads - oh and the token girl, a couple of nice Sonia Delaunays -
We took the train from Carcassonne to Marseille-St-Charles and then onto Aix-en-Province, most comfortable and with our geriatric passes, 11 euros each way. Train at 7.30am got us in at 12. 29. Cheap hotel also good. Only complaint was the rain on the last day, when it seems Esperaza was basking in summer temperatures. It was warm rain but we were soaked through.
Dinner at the creperie with Angela when we got home... Esperaza looking great :)
